BURLINGTON LOWE’S AWARDS $2,500 HOMETOWN HEROES GRANT TO FORT MADISON TOURISM
FORT MADISON, Iowa — October 31, 2025 — The Fort Madison Tourism Office has been selected as a recipient of a $2,500 Lowe’s Hometown Heroes Grant, made possible through the Burlington, Iowa Lowe’s store. As part of this community project, Lowe’s employees will volunteer their time on Tuesday, November 4 at 10:00 a.m. to complete several improvement projects at the Santa Fe Depot Complex in Fort Madison.
The team will replace boards on the outdoor luggage cart and construct five new picnic tables and a patio bench, enhancing the visitor experience at the Depot grounds.
“The Santa Fe Depot Complex serves as Fort Madison’s visitor center, welcoming travelers year-round,” said Chi Eastin, Tourism Director and President of the North Lee County Historical Society. “Adding more outdoor seating gives visitors a place to relax and enjoy not only our museums, but also the passing trains and the beautiful river views. This new seating area may also help us bring new events and activities to the complex in the future. We’re so grateful to have been chosen for the Lowe’s Hometown Heroes Grant—thank you to Store Manager Joe Felix and his incredible team for helping us enhance this historic site.”
The Santa Fe Depot Complex serves as a hub for Fort Madison’s tourism efforts, welcoming travelers arriving by train, car, and river. The complex also houses the North Lee County Historical Society museums, showcasing the area’s rich rail and river heritage.
