The mighty Mississippi River widens out by Fort Madison and catches its breath, meandering along our border, offering spectacular views and unlimited recreational opportunities. This area of the Mississippi is also known as Lake Cooper and at 30,000 acres, it's Iowa's largest lake, known nationwide for its boating, world class fishing and hunting. It's easy to locate Fort Madison as America's Great River Road, U.S. Hwy 61 leads you here.
While you're in Fort Madison, visit our Historic neighborhoods and Riverfront Busines District - antiques on the avenue, many unique specialty shops, and Victorian homes. Enjoy our tempting restaurants and many lodging opportunities, including bed and breakfasts that compliment our community.
We invite you to relax along with Old Man River and enjoy our heritage, history and dreams - Americans used to dream.
