Celebrating Mexican Heritage at the Tri-State Rodeo

Fort Madison is buzzing with excitement as the Tri-State Rodeo returns this week, and this year’s specialty act brings something extra special to the arena.

We’re proud to welcome Tomas Garcilazo – “The Charro on the Road” to Fort Madison, where he’ll showcase the tradition of La Charrería, Mexico’s National Sport. A third-generation Charro from Mexico City, Tomas grew up immersed in his family’s heritage and now dedicates his life to sharing it with audiences across the world.

His performances combine breathtaking horsemanship with artistry in the maguey rope — a skill that has captivated audiences everywhere from Broadway and Disney’s Wild West Show in Paris to the White House and the Kennedy Center. Tomas has received international recognition, including being named PRCA Specialty Act of the Year four times, winning TBS’s “Go Big Show,” and most recently, an induction into the Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame.

CHARRO ON THE ROAD

Sharing their love for Charrería one performance at a time.

His performance arrives at the perfect time — just one week before our community comes together for the 104th Annual Mexican Fiesta, September 11–13. Fort Madison is proud to be home to Iowa’s oldest Mexican community, and these back-to-back events beautifully highlight the rich heritage and traditions that have long been part of our city’s story.

Catch Tomas in the arena during the Tri-State Rodeo, Thursday, Sept. 4 – Saturday, Sept. 6, and join us the following weekend for the Fiesta! From rodeo thrills to cultural traditions, September is the perfect time to experience the spirit of Fort Madison.
