"George Washington Slept Here" by Moss Hart and George S. Kaufman

  • Fort Madison Tourism Bureau 804 10th Street Fort Madison, IA, 52627 United States (map)

Historic charm meets absolute chaos! Join Old Fort Players for a hilarious comedy about the ultimate home-renovation disaster.

Newton Fuller has a hopeless dream of owning a piece of American history. The problem? Without telling his wife, he drags his family out of their comfortable city apartment to buy a dilapidated, 200-year-old rural farmhouse based entirely on a rumor that George Washington once slept there.

What they actually bought is an absolute money pit with a collapsing roof, no water, and a deeply hostile neighbor who owns their only access road. As Newton blindly tries to fix up this structural nightmare, his cynical, sharp-tongued wife Annabelle, their family, and a constant parade of eccentric guests descend on the house, turning this "fixer-upper" into a hilarious, chaotic pressure cooker.

This show is made possible by our wonderful sponsors Bent Oak Books and Connection Bank.
